The characters were so great and I felt like I was actually there with them. The story was so exciting that I couldn’t put the book down and I read the whole thing in less than two days! I didn’t want it to end because I was enjoying it so much and I felt that it ended right at the best moment so I’m really hoping there’s another Max Panamax adventure really soon!

My son likes to read (usually to drown me out) so getting him to look at a book isn’t hard, but getting him to stick to reading an entire book is usually impossible. When he started Max Panamax and didn’t put it down, I knew we were onto something great. It is a delightful and engaging story with plenty of twists and turns to navigate. No cliches just good old fashioned, brilliant, imaginative story telling!

I loved the book it was great. I loved the sense of suspense whenever you turned the page. Another thing that I thought was great was that there were big spaces between lines which is great for people with dyslexia like me. I loved the book with all the boats and the country’s made it much more interesting.

Absolutely loved it. I can imagine it as a film, or even an animation. I’d start the next one, if I were you!

This swashbuckling book is truly unputdownable! I was hooked. It is a race around the world; a quest for unknown treasure; the search for truth; a fight for reputation and, ultimately, the draw of destiny. With plenty of riddles to solve and twists & turns on the way, it is a completely gripping read. Life on board Max Panamax, with its humorous & lovable motley crew, is packed to the gills with adventure. But one you won’t want to end…

Loved sharing Max Panamax with my family. The chapters are a good length – often with mini-adventures within the bigger pirate story. Not to overwhelming for my 10-year-old to read by himself and a pleasure for us to read to my 8-year-old. We all had a favourite character (lots of eccentric ones to choose from!) and there were plenty of laughs. Rare to find a children’s book we all enjoy, but this one we really did.

PS

As a teacher, I’m always on the lookout for materials that capture children’s imagination but help them visualise the world at the same time. This book does both. It is an exciting story, full of suspense & drama, but it also follows the voyage of a bulk carrier around the world. Plotting this course – maybe as part of KS2’s ‘Explorers’ theme – would bring to life sea travel and maps for children. It is well-written too, lots of descriptive words and clever storytelling.
